Daisy Edgar-Jones and Emilia Jones are set to star in a new film called “Bad Bridgets.” This project is directed by Rich Peppiatt, who gained recognition for his debut film “Kneecap,” which won a BAFTA.
LuckyChap Entertainment is producing “Bad Bridgets,” with FilmNation handling sales. They plan to showcase the film package at the American Film Market.
The script for “Bad Bridgets” draws inspiration from the book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Emigrant Women, written by Elaine Farrell and Leanne McCormick. The story follows a young woman who receives a mysterious letter that leads her from famine-stricken Ireland to 19th-century New York. Here, she joins other Irish emigrants, often called “Bridgets,” who create trouble in the city.
Peppiatt and his producer, Trevor Birney, optioned the book earlier this year. Their production company, Coup d’Etat Films, is also involved. Filming for “Bad Bridgets” is scheduled to take place in Northern Ireland and Ireland in spring 2026, featuring Oscar-winning production designer James Price and costume designer Kate Hawley.
Rich Peppiatt’s previous film, “Kneecap,” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024, where it won the NEXT Audience Award. The film, which features the hip-hop group Kneecap as themselves, became a standout at the festival and received multiple nominations, setting a record for the most nominated debut in BAFTA history.
This project highlights a growing trend in cinema, focusing on stories centered around the experiences of immigrants. According to a recent report from the Pew Research Center, immigration-themed films have risen in popularity, reflecting broader social conversations about identity and belonging.
As “Bad Bridgets” develops, excitement builds around its unique blend of history and storytelling. This offers a fresh perspective on the immigrant experience, emphasizing resilience and community amidst challenges.
