Dak Prescott Seeks Redemption in Denver: Why Grit is Key for Cowboys’ Victory

Remember that tough game where Dak Prescott threw two interceptions, one leading to a 103-yard pick-six? It was a significant moment for him, marking one of his biggest losses early in his career.

Fast forward to his 10th season, and Prescott has come a long way. Back then, many wondered if he was the Cowboys’ future. He reflects, “As a rookie, I played so well that the coaches didn’t focus on the details as much. I was just a hot prospect.” Year two was challenging for him, and he admits it didn’t bring much growth. He feels that every part of his game has improved since then, displaying his determination to evolve as a player.

Now, Prescott heads back to Mile High, facing a formidable defense. The Broncos, under Vance Joseph, have one of the league’s top pass rushes. Prescott is excited for the challenge: “It’s what you play the game for—elite competition and a loud environment. Our communication will be tested, and we’re ready.”

The Broncos boast standout players like cornerback Patrick Surtain and sack leader Nik Bonitto, making their defense both strong and intimidating. Prescott acknowledges their skills: “Corners can be aggressive when the pass rush is strong. They lead the league in sacks and excel on third downs.”

Speaking of third downs, Cowboys’ offensive coordinator Klayton Adams points out that Denver has forced the most third and eights in the NFL this season. This means that opponents struggle on first and second downs against them. For Prescott, the strategy is clear: “We need to be adaptable and win dirty. We have to capitalize on our opportunities.” He believes that converting on first and second downs can improve their chances on third down, keeping them in manageable situations.

Dallas has a solid third-down conversion rate, sitting at 44.05%. Prescott sees this as a testament to the team’s identity—competitive and resilient, with strong mutual trust among teammates. “We’re going to fight in all phases and give everything we have,” he says.

Interestingly, there are only two teams that Prescott hasn’t beaten: the Buffalo Bills and the Broncos. He sees this upcoming game as an opportunity to narrow that list, expressing eagerness to finally secure a win against the Broncos. “This is one you definitely want to cross off after ten years in the league,” he adds with determination.
