The University of West Florida has named Daniel Lucas as the new vice president of Finance and Administration. This appointment follows the retirement of Betsy Bowers and will be effective on November 1, pending approval from the UWF Board of Trustees. Lucas will also keep his position as chief financial officer of the UWF Foundation.
Interim President Manny Diaz Jr. praised Lucas for his strong leadership and deep understanding of university operations. He highlighted Lucas’s commitment to transparency and accountability, making him well-suited for this leadership role.
The Division of Finance and Administration plays a key role in supporting the university’s mission. It focuses on enhancing internal services and fostering partnerships outside the university. In his new role, Lucas will oversee several important areas, including Business and Auxiliary Services, Controller’s Office, Emergency Management, and Facilities Management. He’ll also manage UWF Business Enterprises, Inc., which supports the university’s goals.
Betsy Bowers expressed confidence in Lucas’s ability to carry on the division’s work. She noted his understanding of the university’s culture and priorities, assuring that he will lead with dedication and integrity.
Overseeing private donations as CFO of the UWF Foundation, Lucas will continue to nurture important relationships with donors. He aims to create a meaningful impact on students, faculty, and the community.
Lucas began his career at UWF in 2014 and has extensive experience in university finance. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University and is a certified public accountant in Florida.
With Lucas stepping into this key role, the future looks promising for the Division of Finance and Administration. As financial trends in education shift, effective leadership in financial management becomes increasingly important. According to a recent survey by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), colleges are prioritizing financial strategy and transparency to better serve their communities. Lucas’s experience and vision will be vital as the university navigates these changes.
