Danone’s 2025 Success: Strong Results and Ambitious Growth Plans for 2026

French food company Danone recently reported impressive sales for 2025, significantly exceeding expectations. With a strong demand for baby formula in China, Danone achieved revenues of around $32 billion, marking a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year. This was slightly above analyst forecasts, which anticipated a growth of 4.4%.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Danone’s CEO, acknowledged the unpredictable global market but remained optimistic about the company’s future. He expressed confidence in their strategy moving forward, even as world conditions remain volatile.

A big driver of this growth was the increase in medical nutrition products and infant formula sold in China. This success helped balance out declines in U.S. coffee creamer sales, which faced stiff competition. Danone also improved its profit margins, rising from 13% to 13.4% of total sales, matching analyst predictions.

The fourth quarter showed even stronger performance, with a 4.7% increase in sales compared to analyst expectations of 4.3%. However, Danone is navigating a potential hurdle due to recent recalls of infant formula linked to contamination issues. These recalls, initially limited to Europe, haven’t impacted the Chinese market yet, where the company makes about 17% of its profits from baby formula sales.

Analysts are wary of how these recalls might affect Danone’s reputation in China, especially as competitors like Nestle have a much smaller reliance on the Chinese market for infant formula profits.

Interestingly, Danone, along with other big consumer goods companies like Unilever, has begun moderating its price increases after three years of significant hikes during the COVID-19 pandemic. This shift aims to win back customers who opted for cheaper alternatives during inflation.

In summary, Danone’s robust performance reflects its adaptability in a challenging market, especially within the competitive landscape of baby formula in China. As they look to 2026, leadership anticipates sales growth of 3-5%, with operating income expected to grow even faster.
