Darden Restaurants Celebrates Five Years of Food Truck Donations to Feeding America: Join the Fight Against Hunger Together!

Darden Restaurants is marking five years of giving back through its support for Feeding America. This year, the company is donating ten refrigerated trucks to food banks, helping to fight hunger across the nation.

Since 2021, Darden has provided 54 trucks to 54 food banks in 23 states. These trucks can carry up to 12,000 pounds of food, expanding the reach of food distribution in underserved communities. This donation aligns with the increasing need for food aid.

In fact, a recent report showed that nearly 65% of food banks in the U.S. served more people in October 2024 compared to the previous year. Overall, 13.5% of American households faced food insecurity in 2023, which corresponds to about 47 million individuals. For families with young children, the situation is more severe; over a third of adults with kids under five reported facing food insecurity.

Rick Cardenas, President and CEO of Darden, expressed gratitude for the partnership with Feeding America. He noted how each truck transforms food banks’ ability to serve their communities. Similarly, Linda Nageotte, President and COO of Feeding America, highlighted the importance of collaboration to end hunger.

Darden’s efforts don’t stop at truck donations. Their Harvest program works to redirect surplus food from restaurants to local nonprofits, ensuring that leftover food nourishes families rather than becoming waste. Over the years, they’ve provided around 148 million pounds of food to those in need.

Despite these contributions, food insecurity remains a pressing issue. Historical data shows that food banks have often struggled during economic downturns, reflecting broader economic trends. Addressing this challenge requires collective action.
