“Daredevil: Born Again” has made a big splash on Disney+. In just five days, it gained 7.5 million views, marking the best streaming debut on the platform this year since its launch on March 4.
Disney doesn’t often share viewership numbers, so it’s hard to make direct comparisons. However, earlier this year, the drama “Paradise” garnered 7 million views in its first nine days on Hulu and Disney+. Another Marvel show, “Agatha All Along,” reached 9.3 million views in its first week last September.
The series brings back familiar faces like Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, and Jon Bernthal, all from the previous Marvel-Netflix adaptation of “Daredevil.” New cast members include Margarita Levieva, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki M. James, Genneya Walton, and Michael Gandolfini.
Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer who transforms into the vigilante Daredevil at night, fighting crime in Hell’s Kitchen. D’Onofrio returns as Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, the show’s main villain.
The reviews have been largely positive. Aramide Tinubu from Variety praised the show for its depth, stating, “This ‘Daredevil’ revival is wonderfully complex, taking a sledgehammer to its former Netflix world.”
Dario Scardapane is the showrunner and executive producer, with Kevin Feige and several others also on the production team. Directors include Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, and Michael Cuesta, among others.
