Kevin F. Kwaku, MD, PhD, is set to become the next president of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) from 2026 to 2028. He’ll be the first leader from a northern New England institution in the ABC’s 50-year history. ABC, founded in 1974, aims to address disparities in heart health through education, advocacy, and research.
Kwaku joined Dartmouth Health in 2017 and holds degrees from Columbia University. He’s an expert in cardiovascular disease and electrophysiology and serves as an assistant professor at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
This appointment comes at a critical time when heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for nearly 697,000 deaths in 2021. Kwaku’s leadership could help elevate awareness and strategies around these persistent health issues.
