Dauphine University Triumphs in the Denodo University Challenge: How Students Showcase Innovative Solutions

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 4, 2025 — Denodo, a leader in data management, has announced the winners of the latest Denodo University Challenge. The team Data Shoe from Dauphine University in Paris took home the top prize. Team members include Dounia Bouloudene, Nassim Fatmi, and Youcef Azouaoui. They created a solution focused on using data to improve life expectancy. You can watch their winning presentation in the linked video.

This challenge was part of the Denodo Academic Program, which prepares students with online, self-paced training, live workshops, and access to the Denodo Platform. Announced in September, the challenge had students work on projects that explored how data and analytics can enhance environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

The task required students to pull together data from various sources to analyze how different factors influence life expectancy. They used reporting and visualization tools to present their findings clearly.

The Data Shoe team highlighted three key areas for improving life expectancy: access to healthcare, air quality, and political stability. They argued that effective public policies in these areas could lead to better health outcomes globally. To tackle the challenge, they utilized publicly available data on air pollution and political factors.

The judges praised Data Shoe for their clear narrative and effective use of the Denodo Platform and Power BI for data visualization. Their visuals made complex data easy to understand, supporting their insights effectively.

Dounia expressed the team’s gratitude, stating, “The Denodo University Challenge taught us to think strategically about data integration. We faced challenges in choosing the best approach and finding valuable data, but our teamwork helped us succeed.”

Alberto Pan, Denodo’s chief technology officer, applauded the team’s professionalism. He noted that they showcased how good data management could make complex topics clearer. The Denodo Platform supports users with varied skill levels, making it easier to develop effective data solutions quickly.

The next Denodo University Challenge will focus on artificial intelligence and is open for pre-registration starting today.
