Dave Matthews will not be performing at the FireAid benefit concert this Thursday.

His absence is due to a serious family illness. The news was shared on the Dave Matthews Band’s official Instagram page, stating, “due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week.”

Matthews was set to share the stage with John Mayer, marking their first live collaboration. Mayer expressed his support for Matthews on Instagram, saying, “Sending all my love to Dave, who will be there in spirit with me at @fireaidla.”

CNN has reached out for more comments from Matthews’ team.

The FireAid concert is aimed at helping the recovery efforts after the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. It will be held at the Kia Forum and the new Intuit Dome in Inglewood, LA.

Many artists are on the lineup, including Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Gracie Abrams. Other big names like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Pink, and Green Day will also perform throughout the night.

The event aims to raise funds to rebuild communities hit by wildfires and to support future preventative measures across Southern California.

Recently, Los Angeles dealt with multiple wildfires that caused significant destruction and resulted in 29 fatalities. The Palisades and Eaton Fires have emerged as some of the most devastating in LA’s history. According to estimates, over 16,200 structures were either damaged or destroyed.
