David Del Rio is fighting back after being fired from CBS’s Matlock last year over allegations of sexual assault. His attorney, Shawn Holley, announced today that Del Rio has started arbitration to clear his name and address what he believes are false claims that hurt his career and reputation.
During the arbitration, Del Rio plans to present text messages and evidence that contradict the previous public narrative about the incident. Holley stated that this evidence wasn’t fully considered before CBS made its decision. Del Rio is hopeful that a thorough review will reveal the truth and restore his professional standing.
The arbitration has begun and will be facilitated by mediators from JAMS. CBS, however, has chosen not to comment on the arbitration or the ongoing investigations but confirmed that Del Rio is no longer part of the series.
Del Rio was let go in October after an incident involving fellow Matlock cast member Leah Lewis on September 26. Following this, CBS initiated an internal investigation and Del Rio was escorted off the Paramount lot the same day.
Prior to his arbitration announcement, Del Rio cooperated with CBS’s investigation into the matter. His latest interview took place around Thanksgiving, where he was reinterviewed by CBS, alongside his new lawyer. Despite the new insights from Del Rio, CBS reaffirmed their decision to remove him from the series.
Interestingly, during the investigations, the nature of the accusations against Del Rio changed from sexual assault to “unwanted sexual conduct.” CBS did not comment on this shift.
