David Hill recently stepped down as Interim Head Coach of the UT Southern swimming program. He took on this role after Trevor Trimpe resigned in December.
Hill started with the Firehawks in 2025 as an assistant coach. After Trimpe’s departure, he took the helm temporarily. Under his leadership, the men’s team finished second at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, while the women’s team, with just four swimmers, came in fourth.
The men’s team performed impressively, earning silver medals in all five relays and consistently advancing swimmers to the finals. Meanwhile, a standout moment was when freshman Janos Kadar competed at the NAIA National Championships, finishing 33rd in the 200 free and 34th in the 500 free.
Trimpe, who resigned after more than two seasons, previously coached at Midland University and West Virginia Tech. His time with UT Southern began in 2023.
As the search begins for a new head coach, there’s excitement about the future of the program. Hill, a 2020 graduate of the University of Kansas, has a background in coaching and is the founder of Elite Swim Training (EST). He’s also authored 17 books, including “The College Swimming Guide,” which provides insights on recruiting and training for aspiring swimmers.
While the team now faces a transition period, this moment could bring fresh opportunities and a new direction for the Firehawks swimming program. The enthusiasm from both current swimmers and the wider community suggests strong support as they move forward.
