Azusa, California – At the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University, two Cougs recorded personal bests as they kicked off their collegiate 10k careers.
Lauren Hoyt made her 10k debut, finishing 25th in the Open A division with a time of 35:17.42. Zenah Cheptoo, competing in the Invite 1 division, clocked in at 33:11.08, securing 13th place.
Also debuting in the 10k was Leo Cook, who finished 16th in the Open B division with a time of 31:21.29.
In the Women’s 3k Steeplechase, Caroline Jepkorir finished 12th in the Invite heat, just two seconds shy of her personal best, completing the race in 10:01.79.
This year’s Invitational featured over 1,000 athletes, making it a significant event in the track and field calendar. Notably, the high participation underlines a growing interest in distance running among new athletes, especially post-pandemic.
