Israeli officials recently shared that intelligence suggested Iran could quickly enrich uranium to weapons-grade levels. They indicated this could happen within two weeks if Iran chose to accelerate its nuclear program. However, they emphasized that Iran was still not close to creating a traditional nuclear bomb.
In discussing the situation, officials pointed out that they felt a strong need to act. They acknowledged that while their military actions did not completely eliminate Iran’s nuclear capacity, Iran still holds some capabilities.
Former President Trump defended his choices during this tense period, arguing that if the U.S. had not intervened, the risk of nuclear conflict would have been much higher. He claimed Iran would have posed a significant threat to many countries.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy, reported that Iranian negotiators had stated they possessed enough enriched uranium for about 11 nuclear bombs. This included roughly 460 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%. Notably, he stressed that it could be pushed to weapons-grade status within about a week to ten days.
Despite these claims, Iran consistently asserted that it had no intention of creating a nuclear weapon. Just days before the military strikes, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mentioned that there was no evidence indicating Iran was working on such a capability.
As tensions escalate, Iran is bracing for several weeks of conflict while reportedly keeping its weapons stockpiles intact. Israeli officials clarified that Israel did not draw the U.S. into this war but acted based on national security interests.
