Day One Highlights: Army West Point Men and Boston University Women Dominate Patriot League Indoor Track & Field Championships

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – After the first day of the 2024-25 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Army West Point men’s team and Boston University women’s team lead their respective competitions at Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse.

On the men’s side, Army West Point secured 74 points, followed by Navy at 55. Bucknell (19), Colgate (14), and Lehigh (11) rounded out the top five. Lafayette (8), Boston University (6), American (5), and Holy Cross (3) completed the men’s standings.

The Boston University women also had a strong showing with 72 points. Army West Point and Navy each had 53 points, tied for second place. Bucknell and Lehigh both scored 19 points to make up the top five. Holy Cross (11), Colgate (4), Lafayette (2), American (1), and Loyola (0) filled the rest of the women’s standings.

Record Highlights:

Boston University’s Peace Omonzane set a new record in the women’s long jump, leaping 6.20 meters. She also holds the record for the triple jump from earlier this year.

What’s Next:

Sunday marks the final day of the championships. Field events will kick off at 11 a.m., and track events will start at 12:02 p.m.

Day One Highlights:

In the pole vault, Army’s Brian McSweeney took home gold with a height of 5.10 meters. Navy’s Helen Emerick led the women’s pole vault at 3.95 meters.

In the 5,000 meters, Navy’s Murphy Smith won with a time of 14:04.85, while Boston University’s Vera Sjöberg set a facility record in the women’s race at 16:21.28.

In the weight throw, Ellie Roan from Boston University claimed her second gold with a throw of 20.43 meters. Army’s Robby Manse won the men’s event with a throw of 19.85 meters.

The long jump saw Colgate’s Cole Blair win gold for the men at 7.50 meters, while Peace Omonzane once again impressed with her record-breaking jump of 6.20 meters for the women.

In the 4×800-meter relay, Navy’s team won gold for the men, while Army took the win for the women.

In the women’s pentathlon, Boston University’s Olivia Hughes shined in her Championship debut, earning gold with 3,581 points.

The Patriot League, now in its fourth decade, continues to celebrate the academic and athletic achievements of its student-athletes, proving that high standards in both areas can coexist.
