Terriers Shine at Patriot League Championships
In Annapolis, Maryland, the Terrier swim team had an impressive showing at the Patriot League Championships. Senior Haley Newman made history by becoming the first Terrier to win a medal in the same event for four consecutive years. Freshman Kiki Rampersad also shined, earning her first individual Patriot League medal.
Rampersad finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 53.16 seconds. This marked the best finish in Boston University history for that event.
Newman secured a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:18.28. She has now stood on the podium every year she has competed in this event. Junior Izzy Ramos also had a personal best, finishing eighth at 4:28.44.
In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Abby Han placed seventh with a time of 55.52 seconds. Freshman Danka Ndubuisi had an exciting moment as she won her heat to qualify for the B final, ultimately finishing with a strong time of 55.11 seconds.
Another highlight came from freshman Hadar, who achieved a top-10 finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.49. In the 200 freestyle relay, Rampersad, Ndubuisi, freshman Molly Barber, and freshman Lily Osborn combined to finish sixth, recording a time of 1:32.66.
With one day left in the championships, the Terriers are in fourth place with 614 points. They are closing in on Bucknell, who sits in third place with just a 66-point lead, while they are ahead of fifth-place Loyola Maryland by 58 points.
This year’s competition reflects the ongoing growth of the BU swim team. The collective effort from both newcomers and seasoned athletes highlights the team’s strong future. With young talent stepping up, the program is building a legacy that could lead to even more achievements in the upcoming seasons.
