A 28-year-old man from Washington, D.C. is currently held without bond after allegedly breaking into a food truck. This incident happened last month at a storage facility on Eisenhower Avenue, according to a search warrant affidavit from Alexandria Police.
On March 2, police received a call about a theft from a vehicle. The victim noticed someone inside his food truck on surveillance footage and reported it to the authorities. When officers arrived, they found the man coming out of the truck and took him into custody.
Inside the food truck, police discovered several items: a crowbar, a long screwdriver, a mechanic’s glove, a cash box, and a silver Kimber Micro 9mm pistol. The firearm was reported stolen just a few blocks away. The truck’s owner told police that these items did not belong to him.
The suspect claimed he was just looking for food and denied knowledge of the tools and the gun, except for the glove, which he admitted was his.
He now faces two charges: possessing a firearm as a violent felon, which could lead to five years in prison, and breaking into a vehicle, a misdemeanor that could result in a year in jail or a fine up to $2,500. His case has been taken to a grand jury, although a trial date has not yet been set.
