Deal Secured to Preserve Crozer Health System in Delaware County: What It Means for Residents

MEDIA, Pa. – Great news for Delaware County! The Crozer Health System will remain open, thanks to a recent agreement.

On Friday, the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office shared an update after a productive meeting with various stakeholders, including Prospect Medical and representatives from the governor’s office.

Attorney General Dave Sunday expressed his satisfaction with the deal, announcing, “An agreement was reached with The Foundation for Delaware County.” This collaboration aims to stabilize Crozer during its restructuring process.

The future of Crozer had been uncertain after a judge held an emergency meeting concerning crucial funding. This funding was vital for a potential sale that would ensure continued operations.

According to Sunday, “The Foundation will be involved in Crozer’s restructuring, first under a receiver, FTI Consulting, and then with its eventual nonprofit owner.” All parties are dedicated to preserving healthcare access for the Delaware community and keeping the workforce intact.

Looking ahead, Sunday mentioned that they will inform the bankruptcy court about their progress in the upcoming hearing. “There is much work to be done, but we will not stop fighting on behalf of Pennsylvanians,” he stated.

This news follows a broader trend in healthcare, where many facilities are navigating financial challenges. In fact, a recent report by the American Hospital Association noted that over 40% of hospitals faced financial difficulties in 2022. Community health systems like Crozer are essential for local communities, so maintaining access to care is crucial.

The commitment of both state officials and community organizations highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in healthcare, especially during challenging times. For more on this topic, you can read the American Hospital Association’s report on hospital finances here.
