Deebo Samuel Sr. Clears the Air: ‘No Bad Blood’ with 49ers – What It Means for the Team

Recently, some reports suggested that the 49ers and receiver Deebo Samuel have had their differences. However, Deebo made it clear he has no hard feelings. He tweeted, “The 49ers know where I stand with them, and it’s nothing but love. Love [G.M.] John [Lynch] and [coach] Kyle [Shanahan] to death. No bad blood, no way, shape, or form. I appreciate everything they’ve done for me as a player and a man.”

On the flip side, Tim Kawakami from the San Francisco Standard shares a different viewpoint about the team’s feelings toward Samuel. He mentions ongoing frustration with Samuel, especially after Super Bowl LVIII. In that game, despite multiple attempts to involve him, Deebo managed just 3 catches for 33 yards and 8 rushing yards. He was hardly a factor when the team needed him most.

Kawakami also revealed that during Samuel’s 2022 contract talks, a 49ers negotiator suggested he didn’t deserve the big contracts that some other players received, implying that he might not stay at the top of his game for long. This could have just been a negotiation tactic, but it points to concerns within the organization about Samuel’s future performance.

The 49ers eventually traded Deebo to a rival team for a fifth-round pick, signaling a clear decision to move on. It often happens in sports that a team decides to part ways a year too soon rather than too late. Perhaps this change will give Deebo a fresh start he needs. Nonetheless, this split seems like it has been in the making for some time.
