On May 15, 2026, Union Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stones for the “Core Integration & Flight Testing Centre” at Puttaparthi. Alongside this, a naval systems manufacturing facility is being established in Anakapalli district.
From Model to Real Jet: The AMCA, once just a model, was publicly showcased in February 2025 at Aero India. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) revealed a full-scale model of this “5.5 generation stealth aircraft.” Designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency for the Indian Air Force, the project received formal approval in May 2025, allowing both private and public firms to participate.
Looking ahead, the timeline suggests the first prototype could be ready by early 2027, with its first flight projected for 2029. Notably, the AMCA Mark 1 is expected to feature an American GE-414 engine, crucial for its transition from concept to reality.
