On January 2, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta kicked off the Delhi Shabdotsav 2026, celebrating India’s rich and diverse culture. She emphasized how India’s unique heritage has stood the test of time despite numerous challenges.
“India is always in dialogue with its past, present, and future,” Gupta stated. “Our civilization faced many attacks, but our roots remain strong.” She stressed the importance of linking today’s youth with India’s vibrant history and cultural values.
Gupta’s remarks also highlighted that “values are just as important as science.” She acknowledged the questions many Indian parents have about instilling a sense of heritage in their children amidst modern influences. “We can progress while staying connected to our roots,” she said.
Delhi, as Gupta noted, showcases the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India). Celebrations across the city exemplify this unity, from Bihar’s Chhath Pooja to Maharashtra’s Ganesh Chaturthi. She mentioned how the government expanded cultural festivities to places like university campuses, reinforcing community bonds and ensuring proper arrangements for traditional events, such as the Kanwar Yatra. Gupta particularly highlighted the grandeur of Diwali celebrations, where 125,000 diyas were lit along Kartavya Path.
In a pointed comment directed at opposition leaders, Gupta criticized those who speak negatively about India abroad. “When an Indian leader speaks ill of their own country internationally, it shows a disconnect with the land,” she remarked.
The Delhi Shabdotsav 2026 runs from January 2 to 4 at National Stadium, aiming to elevate awareness of India’s cultural, literary, and philosophical richness.
