On World Ozone Day, Delhi’s Environment Minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, emphasized the city’s role in reducing ozone-depleting substances. He announced that Delhi will continue its efforts for cleaner air and effective climate action.
During the event, held at the Delhi Secretariat, Sirsa and senior officials from the Environment Department and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) made a commitment to environmental protection. “Delhi is a leader in phasing out harmful substances. We will keep striving for better air quality,” he stated.
The minister encouraged residents to adopt eco-friendly practices. “Every small choice counts. We can all contribute to a healthier planet,” he said. This year’s theme, “From Science to Global Action,” marks the anniversary of the Montreal Protocol, signed in 1987 to protect the ozone layer. This event symbolized a renewed commitment to sustainable living.
As part of their pledge, officials vowed to avoid harmful products like CFC-based air conditioners and aerosol sprays. Instead, they promised to choose eco-friendly appliances and energy-efficient options in their daily lives. “We can all reduce pollution and save energy for future generations,” Sirsa added.
Expert opinions highlight the importance of this commitment. According to a recent report by the United Nations, the ozone layer is healing due to global efforts like the Montreal Protocol. Studies show that the phase-out of ozone-depleting substances can prevent millions of cases of skin cancer and cataracts. This illustrates how individual actions, combined with government efforts, can lead to significant, positive changes.
Social media reactions have also been positive. Many users shared tips on how to reduce their carbon footprint, sparking a conversation about sustainable living practices. The trend underscores a growing awareness of environmental issues among the public.
By making informed choices, we can all play a part in protecting our environment. Let’s embrace cleaner alternatives and strive for a sustainable future.
