Sugar & Sage Bakery has brought back a beloved treat: the chocolate mousse enjoyed by Camp Mystic campers for years. This special dessert aims to support Camp Mystic families and staff.
Known as the “Messy Face Cake,” this mousse and Tweety’s chocolate chip cookies are camp favorites. Chef Jill Bates recreated the mousse, and it’s now available at Sugar & Sage Bakery and Coffee, located at 4314 Lover’s Lane in University Park.
The eight-ounce mousse is priced at $8 and will be available until the end of the month. A portion of the sales will go to a GoFundMe account dedicated to helping Camp Mystic families and staff.
Food is a key part of the camp experience. In April 2023, I wrote about camp favorites, and Mystic’s mousse was a top mention among local campers across Texas.
Chef Bates, a fellow member of Les Dames d’Escoffier Dallas, shared her motivations for recreating this dessert. “Sugar & Sage is in a community deeply connected to the flood victims,” she said. “We want to show our support and love to the Mystic families through the joy of mousse.”
Remarkably, within just four days of our chat, the mousse was ready for sale. This quick response shows a strong dedication to the community.
The support from Sugar & Sage Bakery not only revives a nostalgic favorite but also highlights the power of community action during tough times. Recent studies indicate that local businesses contribute significantly to community resilience, especially in crisis. From their rapid response to supporting local families in need, Sugar & Sage exemplifies how a small bakery can make a big difference.
Thanks to the team at Sugar & Sage for their generosity and commitment to helping others.
