“A cookie just tastes better with a smile,” says Kimberly Lockwood, who co-owns a Tim Hortons in West Kelowna with her mom, Dawn Fiacco. Their recent Smile Cookie Campaign was a big hit, generating 150% more funds than in previous years.
This campaign happens twice a year, with cookies priced at $2 each. Kimberly shared, “Every penny goes to our chosen charity.” This year, the funds will support the YMCA of Southern Interior BC’s Healthy Snack Program, ensuring children have access to nutritious afternoon snacks.
On May 27, they presented a check for $93,896 to the YMCA. Heather Campbell, the Senior Manager of Child Care at YMCA, expressed her surprise at the amount. She noted that many families struggle to provide healthy options due to rising living costs. The funds will help supply snacks that meet dietary restrictions and include items from two food groups.
The contribution will benefit 15 YMCA Child Care locations spanning from Lake Country to Penticton, helping ensure that kids receive healthy snacks.
The team isn’t stopping there. They plan to participate in the YMCA Cycle for Strong Kids fundraiser on June 1, where they will provide snacks. This event raises money for youth development programs. Starting at 10 a.m. in Stuart Park, it features four riding sessions.
