Delta Flight Diverted Due to Turbulence, 25 Passengers Hospitalized: What You Need to Know

On Wednesday, a Delta flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam faced serious turbulence, forcing it to land in Minneapolis. The airline reported that 25 people were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

The flight, known as DL56, touched down safely at Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport around 7:45 p.m. Emergency personnel were on hand to assist both passengers and crew. Delta emphasized the importance of safety and expressed gratitude to the responders.

The Airbus A330-900, which was operating this flight, can seat up to 465 people, though Delta did not disclose the total number on board.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Earlier this year, another flight, a United Express service, experienced turbulence that led to five minor injuries during an emergency landing in Waco, Texas.

Experts warn that turbulence incidents have been rising. According to a 2022 report from the International Air Transport Association, flight disruptions due to weather have increased by 25% in the past decade.
