Gambier, Ohio- The Denison women’s swimming and diving team took part in the First Chance Invitational at Kenyon College, getting ready for the NCAA Division III Championships. Many swimmers improved their times, making strides just ahead of the big competition.
Sophomore Jena Lawlor had a standout performance, cutting three seconds off her North Coast Athletic Conference 500-yard freestyle time, finishing in 5:01.19. Another sophomore, Erika Schraber, also excelled by reducing her NCAC 400-yard individual medley time by five seconds to hit 4:26.78. Freshman Audrey Brink swam the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:18.18, improving her time by three seconds.
Senior swimmers Annie Pfeufer and Taryn Wisner made significant contributions as well. Pfeufer was close to her personal best in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:52.04. Wisner shone brightly, swimming the 1650-yard freestyle 13 seconds faster than her previous race, which boosted her ranking from 26th to the top 20 in the nation.
The Big Red will hit the pool again on Saturday, February 22, at 12 p.m. for Kenyon College’s Fast Chance Meet. They’re excited to keep the momentum going into the championships!
