Megan Aamold Shines as Newcomer of the Week
Megan Aamold, a freshman gymnast at the University of Denver, has made headlines again. She was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second week in a row. This recognition shows her growing talent and hard work.
On February 7, Aamold scored an impressive 9.925 on the beam at Arizona State. This was not just a personal best; it also contributed to the team’s highest score of the season—49.450 on the beam. This score marked a significant two-tenth improvement from their previous best.
Aamold’s performance played a crucial role in Denver achieving a new season-high overall score of 196.950, bettering their past record by nearly four-tenths. Her score on the beam was the final contribution that helped secure this achievement.
This award is Aamold’s second in her young career, and it adds to the accomplishments of the University of Denver gymnastics team this season. Earlier this season, teammate Shyla Bhatia also received the Newcomer of the Week nod, highlighting the team’s strong roster of fresh talent.
The No. 18-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team will face off against Arizona at Magness Arena on Saturday, February 14, at 6:45 p.m. MT.
As college gymnastics gains popularity, experts note that such performances are essential for inspiring future athletes. According to a recent NCAA report, gymnastics participation among young girls has increased by 30% in the last five years. Events like these not only showcase individual brilliance but also cultivate a supportive community and spark interest in the sport.
