With a record of 15-7 and a perfect 6-0 in the Summit League, they recently swept the semifinals against Oral Roberts, winning 4-0. This victory sends them to their 12th straight Summit League championship match. They’ve already claimed the title for the last 11 years.
The Pioneers started strong in doubles, quickly taking a 1-0 lead. Seniors Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander won their match 6-2, marking their third win in a row. Meanwhile, Zoe Adkins and Natálie Cinková clinched the doubles point with a decisive 6-1 victory. Though Marley Lambert and Yunfei Cai were in a tough match, their game was called off when the clinch was secured.
In singles, Denver dominated, winning all six first sets. Summit League Player of the Year, Wikander, brought the heat by winning her match without dropping a game, one of only three times in her NCAA career. Freshman Cai, this year’s Summit League Newcomer of the Year, secured a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, maintaining her streak of losing three games or fewer in matches this season.
Cinková secured the clinching point for Denver, taking her match 6-2, 6-3. With confidence, she rebounded from an early setback to win six games straight in the first set.
As Denver prepares for the Summit League final on Saturday, April 25, they await the winner of the match between Omaha and North Dakota. The championship will start at 10 a.m. CT/9 a.m. MT.
