DeSales University Baseball Suffers Heartbreaking 10-9 Loss in Fourth Straight Defeat Against Southwestern (TX)

Georgetown, TX (March 11, 2025) – The DeSales University baseball team faced off against Southwestern University (TX) and experienced its fourth consecutive defeat, losing 10-9 on Tuesday night.

The game started off well for DeSales, with junior Shane Anhalt hitting a solo home run in the second inning, putting them up 1-0. However, Southwestern quickly retaliated with two runs in their half of the second and two more in the third inning, taking a 4-1 lead.

But DeSales wasn’t done yet. They bounced back in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to regain the lead at 5-4. Key contributions came from sophomore Jeremy Stranix, who had an RBI walk, and junior John Rorick, who hit a two-run single during this rally.

DeSales added some insurance in the fifth. Senior Colin Houck tripled to left center, bringing in junior JT Anderosky, and then scored on a sacrifice fly from graduate student Travis Kerr. This increased their lead to 7-4. However, the Pirates weren’t finished; they answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-7 lead.

The Bulldogs managed to tie the game in the sixth on another sac-fly from Houck that scored Anderosky. They then took a brief lead in the seventh with a successful double steal, scoring Stranix.

As the game headed into the ninth inning, Southwestern tied it up on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single that clinched the win for the Pirates.

Anhalt had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI. Both Houck and Rorick contributed with two hits and two RBIs each while scoring once. On the mound, first-year pitcher Joe Ficoturo gave a solid effort, allowing only one run in three innings with four strikeouts. Senior Frank Parrotti took the loss after pitching one inning and giving up two runs on three hits.

The Bulldogs will play again tomorrow, traveling to Schreiner University for a 3:00 PM game.
