Coach Dan Campbell provided updates on the situation. Both starting safeties are unlikely to play due to injury concerns. Brian Branch has been dealing with an ankle injury. While he’s scheduled for an MRI this week, Coach Campbell shared that the news is somewhat positive. “I don’t feel like this is a long-term issue,” he said, suggesting he might still play, depending on how he feels closer to game time.

On the other hand, Kerby Joseph, who leads the team with interceptions, has missed practice all week due to a persistent knee problem. “We’re being smart with them,” Campbell noted, highlighting the uncertainty around both players for the upcoming game.

The Lions are also dealing with veteran Avonte Maddox, who was set to play as the nickel cornerback but suffered a hamstring injury. Campbell labeled him a game-time decision, emphasizing the importance of how quickly Maddox can recover.

In response to these injuries, the Lions have signed several defensive backs to bolster their roster. Recently, they added safety Loren Strickland to the main roster and cornerbacks Tre Flowers and Nick Whiteside to the practice squad. This week, nickel corner Arthur Maulet joined the practice squad as well. While these players lack the chemistry and experience of the starters, Campbell believes they have put in enough work to step up when needed.

“We’ll be ready,” Campbell promised. “We have backup plans in place. Whether those injured players can play or not, we’re prepared to adjust.”
