Detroit Rally Unites Voices Against Trump’s Move to Undermine Climate and Health Protections

DETROIT — Over 200 people gathered in Detroit for the “Climate Can’t Wait” rally on Saturday.

The rally aimed to highlight concerns about recent attempts to roll back environmental and health protections. Organizers expressed their determination to push back against these changes.

Among the attendees were U.S. Congress members Rashida Tlaib and Debbie Dingell, along with Detroit City Council member Gabriela Santiago-Romero.

Debbie Dingell spoke passionately about the impact of job losses at the Environmental Protection Agency. “Four hundred EPA employees were fired, including many from our area. Their work is vital for clean air, safe drinking water, and healthy environments for our children,” she said.

Dingell also referred to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, which aims to remove lead from pipes nationwide, stating, “We cannot afford to lose the progress we’ve made. It’s crucial to protect our land, air, and water for future generations.”

Rashida Tlaib attacked the priorities of some lawmakers, saying, “Republicans are handing out favors to Big Oil while neglecting our health. Communities deserve better. Clean air is our right.”

Gabriela Santiago-Romero added, “The current administration is not supporting the American people as we tackle climate challenges and outdated infrastructure.”

The rally was hosted at the Detroit Hispanic Development Corp, emphasizing local community efforts to advocate for environmental protection.
