Devastating Leg Injury Sidelines Jayson Tatum as Knicks Dominate at Home, Seizing 3-1 Lead Over Celtics

Jayson Tatum suffered a lower leg injury during the Boston Celtics’ recent 121-113 loss to the New York Knicks. As the game neared its end, he went down while chasing a loose ball. Tatum reached for his right ankle in visible pain and needed assistance to leave the court in a wheelchair.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed post-game that Tatum faced a "lower body injury." He expressed concern, noting Tatum usually gets back up after tough moments, but this time was different. "It’s tough to see a guy like him being carried off," said Mazzulla.

To complicate matters, this loss puts the Celtics in a challenging position, trailing 3-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals and facing potential elimination.

In the game, the Knicks made a comeback, overcoming a 14-point deficit in the third quarter. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with an impressive 39 points. He noted the importance of their resilience, saying, “It’s a big game for us. We stuck together and made sure we are not quitting.”

Interestingly, Tatum made history even in defeat. He scored 42 points, tying legends Larry Bird and John Havlicek for the most 40-point playoff games in Celtics history. His performance also included eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

Concerns from teammates ran high regarding Tatum’s condition. Derrick White, who scored 23 points, said, “Hate to see him go down. We have to find a way to win Game 5.” Jaylen Brown echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the emotional toll of witnessing Tatum’s injury.

As social media erupted with support for Tatum, fans expressed their hopes for a quick recovery. Many shared similar experiences, rallying around a star athlete facing adversity.

The Celtics will need to regroup quickly as they prepare to face the Knicks again, who will look to close out the series on Wednesday in Boston.
