Soul Fu, known for its Southeast Asian dishes, and Thigh Times Birdhouse, a chicken eatery, have joined the ranks of Wrecktangle and Ono Hawaiian Plates in the Galley food hall. These spots are brightening up the local food scene, with Wrecktangle also operating stands at Market at Malcolm Yards and Graze, plus a standalone restaurant in Minneapolis. Ono Hawaiian Plates runs inside United Noodles, a popular grocery store. Interestingly, a new Wrecktangle location is set to open in Duluth.

However, not every food stand is thriving. Ramen Kawae, a Japanese ramen spot run by Tuan Hoang, has announced it will close, leaving its only location at the Galley. After three years, Hoang expressed sadness over losing loyal customers who felt like friends. “This was our only spot, so we have to close,” he said. “It’s tough because I built connections with many regulars.”

In another corner of St. Paul, the Apostle Supper Club, a restaurant inspired by Palm Springs, announced its closing. Owner Brian Ingram shared his struggles in a heartfelt Facebook post: “We put our heart and soul into this space and despite our efforts, we’ve reached a breaking point.” This statement resonates with many in the restaurant industry, highlighting the challenges businesses face today.

Recent data shows that nearly 60% of small restaurants struggle to stay afloat, especially amidst rising costs and shifting consumer habits. The current economic climate has forced many dining establishments to adapt quickly or face closure.
