According to Capcom’s recent financial results, sales dropped sharply after the initial buzz. In the last quarter, Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477,000 copies, just a notch above Monster Hunter Rise, which sold 389,000 copies—despite being four years old.
What led to this slump? Several factors are at play. Players have voiced concerns over the game’s optimization and the lack of engaging end-game content. PC gamers have been especially vocal about issues like shader compilation problems and frame rate drops. Although Capcom has released patches, it hasn’t been enough to regain player trust.
This sales drop has affected Capcom’s stock, which fell nearly 10% recently, settling at ¥4,283. Interestingly, Capcom’s operating profits were actually up 90.8% year-over-year, showing that even with a dip in one area, the company’s overall health remains strong. They noted that, despite challenges with Monster Hunter Wilds, titles like Monster Hunter Rise are still experiencing growth.
To reconnect with their audience, Capcom has begun a revamp of the game’s roadmap to better align with player feedback.
On the other side of the spectrum, the Devil May Cry series is performing better than ever. Devil May Cry 5 sold 1.78 million copies last quarter, pushing total sales beyond 10.5 million. The series is thriving, partly due to the recent anime adaptation, albeit with mixed reviews from fans. Additionally, a recent Humble Bundle campaign sold over 13,000 units, supporting charity along the way.
Despite the dip in stock and some high-profile setbacks, Capcom is navigating through these challenges. The future remains bright, and fans are eager for news on upcoming titles, perhaps a remake of the original Devil May Cry? Only time will tell.
