In Edmond, Oklahoma, a food truck owner is facing major challenges after investing in a custom barbecue trailer. Jesse Stevens, the owner of Bearded Hogs BBQ, spent $51,500 on what he hoped would help his business. Instead, it turned into a nightmare.
Stevens had high hopes when he ordered the trailer from Lively Way Enterprises, a local business that custom-builds food trailers. However, he quickly realized the trailer was not up to standard. “Nothing was done right,” he expressed. “It’s all just poor craftsmanship.”
When Stevens inspected his new trailer, he found multiple issues: broken doors, leaking rivets, and a faulty electrical panel. Most concerning was the fire suppression system, which had an expired tank from 2005. “I can’t run my stoves or fryers without fire suppression,” he explained, adding that this effectively shut him down.
To make the trailer safe and usable, Stevens has already spent thousands on repairs and upgrades. After sharing his experience on social media, he found that he wasn’t alone; others have reported similar problems with Lively Way Enterprises.
In response to the negative feedback, the company stated online that it was addressing issues “through the proper channels” and stood by its work and integrity. Despite this, Stevens wants to raise awareness for others in the market for food trailers. “Do your research,” he advised. “There are good builders out there.”
Stevens is contemplating legal action but has also suggested that consumers take action if they believe they’ve been wronged. Those in Oklahoma can file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Unit at the Attorney General’s Office, which resolves thousands of complaints each year.
Experts in consumer rights remind buyers to check company reviews and seek recommendations. According to a recent survey from the Better Business Bureau, nearly 75% of consumers consult online reviews before making major purchases. This highlights the importance of due diligence in today’s market.
If you’re considering purchasing a custom-built food trailer, be sure to look for trusted companies with positive feedback. Stay informed and protect your investment.
