Thinking about a healthier lifestyle this year? You’re in good company. Many Americans are looking to make changes, focusing on three main areas: cutting out processed foods, aging healthily, and improving gut health.
Food trends shift over time, and this year, there’s a clear movement towards nutritious eating. According to a recent survey by Talker Research for Pendulum, 34% of people plan to ditch processed foods, 33% aim to embrace healthier aging habits, and 22% want to boost their gut health.
Despite these goals, many Americans feel their health could improve. They rated their overall well-being as just a 6 out of 10. Almost 90% made health-related resolutions this year. Notably, 49% expressed a desire to maintain a healthy weight.
Dr. Adam Perlman, chief medical officer of Pendulum, notes that awareness around holistic health is growing. People are realizing that to truly feel better, they need to address gut health and metabolic issues—often linked to what they eat.
This focus on gut health is significant. Of those surveyed, 43% noted they face digestive discomfort at least twice daily. Many are taking action: about 69% regularly take vitamin supplements, while a third use herbal supplements and probiotics.
A whopping 83% believe that a healthy gut, good digestion, and a functioning metabolism are vital for overall well-being. In fact, many think improving their gut health could enhance their quality of life by nearly 46%!
It’s clear that people are becoming more aware of the importance of gut health in their journey toward better overall wellness.
This survey included responses from 2,000 Americans, conducted between December 10 and 16, 2024.
