Discover Alex Dixon’s Vision for a Transformative Future at Resorts World Las Vegas

Alex Dixon became the CEO of Genting Berhad’s Resorts World Las Vegas on January 16, 2024. His appointment comes after the company faced its toughest quarter in two years, mainly due to the extreme summer heat in Las Vegas and the impact of the presidential election. Alex, a Las Vegas native, has a rich background in hospitality and gaming. Before joining Resorts World, he was CEO of Q Casino & Resort and the Dubuque Racing Association in Iowa. With over 20 years of experience in companies like MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment, he brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role.

In a recent chat, Alex shared his thoughts on his journey and the future of Resorts World:

Q: You’re a local. How does it feel to come back to Las Vegas?
A: I feel incredibly lucky. I grew up here in a family deeply rooted in the casino industry. My grandmother worked as a housekeeper on the Strip, and my dad, who was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, also worked in hospitality. Walking into this building is a dream come true for me.

Q: There are few Black CEOs in the industry. How do you feel about that?
A: Diversity is crucial in our industry. We need the best talent, and that talent comes from all backgrounds. It’s our responsibility as leaders to create opportunities for everyone, regardless of their race or gender. I’ve always advocated for women to advance in this field. When I look around, I want to see a mosaic of backgrounds and experiences. My grandmother couldn’t even enter a casino through the front door when she arrived in Vegas, and now I’m leading one. That’s a huge responsibility—not just for me, but for the future of the industry.

Q: What challenges and opportunities do you see at Resorts World?
A: I am optimistic. Challenges can be turned into opportunities. We have vast undeveloped land and space that we can develop into experiences. With a growing database of customers, we can serve a wide range of guests—from luxury to traditional hospitality—making it accessible for everyone. We aim to blend luxury with approachability, creating what we like to call “new-money luxury.”

Q: What’s the main focus for your team right now?
A: Our priority is our core gaming customers. We want to ensure they have a fantastic experience at our resort—the shows, the dining, the service. It’s essential they see us as their top choice for both gaming and hospitality.

Q: What are you excited about in the near future?
A: We have some exciting events lined up, like performances by Janet Jackson and Carrie Underwood, and fantastic restaurant openings. There’s a buzz around what’s coming next, and we want to be at the center of that excitement.

Q: What are your long-term goals?
A: We have a beautiful property with over 3,500 hotel rooms and the potential to expand significantly. We aim to create a master plan that could include up to 10,000 hotel rooms. There’s a lot of room for growth in convention space, outdoor entertainment, and more. Our vision is to make Resorts World a key destination on the Strip.
