On March 4, 2026, Paris Fashion Week unveiled a fresh chapter for Balmain. Antonin Tron, the new creative director, showcased 54 looks that blended the brand’s heritage with a style he calls “opulent minimalism.”
Who says Quiet Luxury is out of style? Not Tron. A former Saint Laurent designer, he stepped into his new role last November, bringing a fresh eye while respecting Balmain’s legacy.
When a fashion house gets a new director, it can either stick to its roots, break away, or return to what made it famous. Tron’s collection clearly shows a revival of Balmain’s classic elements. The use of khaki greens and strong shoulders nods to the iconic “Balmain Army” from Olivier Rousteing’s time, while rock-inspired leather pieces echo past influences from Christophe Decarnin.
Tron cleverly combines these inspirations into a more refined aesthetic. It’s as if he’s signaling a bold new direction for the future. Remarkably, he pulled this collection together just three months after being appointed.
A highlight of the show was the aviator jacket, which paid tribute to Danielle Décuré, Air France’s first female pilot. Décuré faced immense challenges in her career, including sexism, yet she persevered, embodying the spirit of empowerment. Pierre Balmain, the founder, even designed a special uniform for her.
Tron also revisits the brand’s history with animal motifs, using them in modern ways. For instance, caviar pearls adorned the designs, while crocodile textures appeared on coats and boots, showcasing his innovative flair.
He incorporated vintage techniques too, like blistered jacquards with smoke motifs. To create visual intrigue, Tron darkened the stage lighting, turning ordinary colors into rich, deep shades. A simple black could transform into striking blood red or midnight blue under the right light.
With a strong mix of the past and present, Anton Tron’s debut at Balmain sets the stage for an exciting future. The fashion world and fans alike are eager to see how he continues to honor the legacy while forging his unique path.
