Discover Authentic Flavors: Simran Indian Cuisine in This Week’s Friday Food Feature on Berks County Eats – BCTV

Kutztown is a vibrant college town with a diverse mix of eateries. However, it has mostly pizza joints, sandwich shops, and bars. Fortunately, a new gem has arrived: Simran Indian Cuisine.

Opened in spring 2024, Simran took over a spot on Main Street that had been empty since 2019. Its arrival is refreshing, breaking the mold of typical dining options in the area.

Recently, I joined friends for lunch at Simran. The restaurant’s decor is warm and inviting, with maroon and tan banquets and colorful murals that celebrate Indian culture. It offers a pleasant atmosphere that feels upscale but remains casual.

The service was quick, even with a group of eight. We enjoyed our drinks and had our meals in under 30 minutes. I chose dal makhani, which featured creamy lentils cooked with tomatoes and spices. The flavors were deep, and the dish was hearty enough to satisfy anyone, even non-vegetarians. The naan was perfectly baked, great for scooping up the delicious sauce.

We ended the meal with rice pudding—a delightful, sweet conclusion to our feast. I felt tempted to order more, but I’ll save that for next time.

I’ve previously tried takeout from Simran, ordering malaik kofta, which are vegetable balls in a rich, nutty sauce—a rarity in local Indian cuisine. It was a memorable dish, distinct from other offerings in town. I also enjoyed chicken korma and chai, which had a more spiced and authentic flavor compared to many options in the area.

Most dishes at Simran range between $15 and $20, with generous portions suitable for sharing or saving for later.

Simran fills a gap in Kutztown’s dining scene by offering authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant’s focus on quality and flavor is clear. Many diners have praised it on social media, with photos of beautifully plated dishes making the rounds on Instagram.

In terms of the broader dining landscape, the popularity of diverse food offerings speaks volumes. According to a recent survey by the National Restaurant Association, 80% of consumers enjoy trying new cuisines, showing a growing appetite for variety.

Simran not only enhances the culinary diversity in Kutztown but also provides a true sit-down dining experience in a town that’s keen for more. With such flavorful dishes, it’s easy to see why this restaurant has quickly gained a loyal following.
