Discover Better Health: Join Howard University’s Exciting Annual Bison Wellness Day!

The Howard University community gathered on April 15 for Bison Wellness Day (BWELL), a lively event aimed at promoting health and well-being. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., students, faculty, and staff enjoyed free health screenings and wellness resources. Over 100 people participated, taking steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

Attendees had access to various health screenings, including vision checks, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose tests, dental check-ups, PSA testing, and HIV testing. Wellness stations provided valuable information about topics like men’s and women’s health, nutrition, skincare, and healthy living practices. Healthcare professionals from Howard University were present to answer questions and offer guidance.

Dr. Andrea A. Hayes-Dixon, vice president of health affairs and dean of the College of Medicine, emphasized the event’s importance: “Bison Wellness Day reflects our continued commitment to advancing health equity and ensuring our community has access to preventive care and critical health resources.” This initiative brings health services closer to the campus, helping individuals take charge of their wellness.

Bison Wellness Day is part of a broader movement toward health education and equity. Recent studies show that access to preventive care can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases. According to the CDC, regular screenings can lead to earlier detection of conditions like diabetes and hypertension, which can improve health outcomes.

This event highlights Howard University’s dedication to fostering a culture of wellness within its community. It’s more than just a day of health checks; it’s about building a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
