Discover Brett McMurphy’s Week 1 AP Top 25 College Football Rankings!

Ohio State topped my AP Top 25 ballot after a tight 14-7 win against Texas. The other teams in my Top 5 are LSU, Georgia, Penn State, and Miami.

This week, I welcomed new teams: Florida State, South Carolina, Iowa State, and Auburn. Alabama, Kansas State, Indiana, and Louisville dropped off my list.

Ohio State’s latest victory marked their fifth straight win over a Top 7-ranked team under Coach Ryan Day. Last year, they clinched the national title with impressive wins over elite teams like Tennessee and Oregon. They now have two home games against Grambling and Ohio ahead.

LSU began their season by defeating Clemson. After trailing 10-7 at halftime, they dominated the second half, showcasing their potential. Coach Brian Kelly secured his first opening win in four seasons. Next up, they’ll face Louisiana Tech before diving into a tough SEC schedule.

Georgia made a strong statement with a 38-7 victory against Marshall. Zachariah Branch, a transfer from USC, showed promise with 95 yards receiving. They continue their season against Austin Peay this Saturday before heading into SEC matchups.

Penn State impressed with a 46-11 win over Nevada. Quarterback Drew Allar had a stellar performance, completing 22 of 26 passes. They’ll face FIU and Villanova next in non-conference games.

Miami pulled off a surprise win against Notre Dame, finishing 27-24. Quarterback Carson Beck led the team with two touchdowns and a standout catch from CJ Daniels. The Hurricanes continue their momentum with a game against Bethune-Cookman this weekend.

Texas, the preseason AP No. 1, struggled offensively but outgained Ohio State. They’ll look to bounce back against San Jose State next.

Oregon rolled past Montana State with a 59-13 victory, continuing their impressive streak with a 19-game regular season win streak. Quarterback Dante Moore threw for three touchdowns, looking sharp for the season ahead.

Florida State delivered the biggest upset of the week, defeating Alabama 31-17 as two-touchdown underdogs. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos played a key role with over 150 passing yards and impressive rushing stats. They’ll take on East Texas A&M this Saturday.

Clemson has now faced three consecutive opening losses. In their recent game against LSU, they couldn’t find the end zone in the second half. They’ll seek redemption at home this weekend before starting ACC play.

Notre Dame suffered another defeat in Miami and now faces a crucial matchup against Texas A&M. A loss could jeopardize their chances for the College Football Playoff.

In summary, college football is off to a thrilling start, with teams eager to prove themselves. The coming weeks will be vital as these teams navigate through non-conference games and prepare for tough conference rivalries.
