CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Linn County Public Health Department is taking healthcare on the road with a new mobile clinic. This initiative aims to provide much-needed services to people in the community.

The mobile clinic will stop at various locations this summer. It offers quick check-ups and preventive services like vaccinations. The first stop was at the Willis Dady Shelter, where officials have noticed an increase in health issues among residents. Many who are homeless face difficulties accessing medical care due to time constraints and financial barriers.

Denine Rushing from the shelter highlighted the daily struggles people face. “Survival takes most of their focus. Health often takes a backseat,” she said.

While the current stops are within Cedar Rapids, there are plans for expansion throughout Linn County. Mollie Swayne, the department’s communications director, noted, “We want to reach everyone in Linn County.”

The mobile clinic has five more stops planned for the summer. This initiative is part of a broader movement to enhance healthcare accessibility. According to a recent report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, nearly 30% of low-income adults in the U.S. lack access to basic healthcare services.

The mobile clinic isn’t just about immediate care; it’s also about prevention and education. Health experts suggest that increasing access to preventive services can significantly reduce long-term health issues.
