CRKD, owned by Embracer Group, recently introduced a new backpack called the Vortex 1.0, priced at $99.99. I decided to give it a try on vacation, replacing my trusty Peak Design Everyday backpack, which I’ve used for about eight years.

While I love the Peak Design bag, it has one drawback: it’s too small to hold my handheld gaming consoles. I often have to leave them at home. The Vortex 1.0 changes that. With dedicated pockets for both my Switch 2 and Steam Deck, it proved to be a game-changer for carrying everything I need. Cost-wise, the Vortex is a fraction of the price of the 30-liter Everyday backpack. For gamers looking for a budget-friendly option, it certainly delivers. However, some features like the materials and shoulder strap comfort fall short when compared to my Peak Design bag, which still looks great after nearly a decade of use.

According to recent surveys, consumers prioritize durability and comfort in their backpacks, especially those used for both travel and tech gear. It’s important to weigh these factors when making a choice. In this context, the Vortex 1.0 offers a solid option for gaming enthusiasts, but it might not satisfy everyone’s needs for longer-term use.

Overall, if you’re looking for a functional and affordable backpack, the Vortex is worth considering. But if you want something that will last, the Peak Design might still be the better bet.
