Discover Delicious and Nutritious Summer Meals: Volusia County Schools Launches Exciting Summer Food Service Program!

Volusia County Schools Summer Food Service Program

DELAND – Volusia County Schools is excited to offer free meals this summer for children 18 and under. This initiative is supported by the USDA Summer Food Service Program and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

To help fill the gap between the end of the school year and summer activities, selected schools will provide breakfast and lunch. If students enroll in VCS Summer Programs and attend in person, they will enjoy free meals at their schools.

For those not participating in summer programs, children can still take part. Parents or guardians must place meal orders 24 hours in advance by contacting the school office of the participating site. It’s important to check in during the designated mealtime.

The Summer Food Service runs from June 8 to July 28, 2026. Meals will be served Monday through Thursday, and all sites will be closed on June 19 for Juneteenth and July 4 for Independence Day.

Children must eat their meals at the site. Here are the participating locations:

Daytona Beach

  • Campbell Middle School (June 8 – July 16)
  • Mainland High (June 8 – July 28)
  • R.J. Longstreet Elementary (June 8 – July 24)
  • Turie T. Small Elementary (June 8 – July 28)
  • Westside Elementary (June 8 – July 28)

Other Sites:

  • DeBary: DeBary Elementary (July 1 – July 28)
  • DeLand: DeLand High (June 8 – July 28)
  • Deltona: Deltona Lakes Elementary (June 8 – July 28)
  • Edgewater: Indian River Elementary (June 8 – July 24)
  • New Smyrna Beach: Coronado Elementary (June 8 – July 24)
  • Ormond Beach: Pine Trail Elementary (June 8 – July 28)

Offering such programs is crucial. According to the USDA, nearly 13 million children in the U.S. relied on free or reduced-price lunches during the school year. Initiatives like this help bridge the nutritional gap in summer months, ensuring children receive the meals they need. Studies show that good nutrition positively impacts children’s health and academic performance.
