The Kern County Fair has kicked off, bringing a fun mix of rides, animals, music, and, of course, delicious food. With over 70 vendors this year, it’s a feast for the senses.
Among the highlights is the Dubai Roll from Old West Cinnamon Rolls. Inspired by a social media trend, it’s already making waves. Alexis Parkhurst, who runs the family business with her brother, couldn’t resist adding it to their menu. “As soon as I tasted it, I knew it had to be on a cinnamon roll,” she shared. The family’s legacy dates back to the 1970s, and Parkhurst feels lucky to keep it alive.
Another exciting addition comes from Erica Quinteros at Dubai Chocolate Strawberries. They’re debuting their Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cups, which feature fresh strawberries, homemade Calibut chocolate, and a special pistachio cream. This year marks their 13th at the fair, but it’s the first time they’re offering this treat on its own.
Phillip Delahoyde of Boss Burger and Cookie & Cones is also serving up new creations. “We’ve got the Crustable Burger and Crustable Bacon Cheeseburger this year,” he said. Each year, he strives to keep the menu fresh and exciting.
Recent surveys indicate that food and entertainment are key drivers for fair attendance. In fact, 70% of attendees rated food options as their favorite part of fairs, according to data from the National Association of Fairs and Expositions. This shows just how important food diversity is at events like the Kern County Fair.
The fair runs until September 28, with varied hours each day. For visitors, it’s a chance not just to enjoy traditional favorites but also to try something new and exciting.
