Gopal Chandra Saha, a street food vendor, has spent over three decades collecting these fascinating items. He has coins dating back to Ashoka’s time, as well as those from the Mughal Empire and British rule. His collection includes everything from one-rupee notes to rare ₹5000 and ₹10000 bills.
Saha notes, “I’ve collected almost every kind of Indian coin and currency. I’ve found many rare pieces like Damri from different corners of the country.”
A Heartfelt Tribute
The museum has a personal touch; it’s named ‘Luv All Coin Collection’ in memory of Saha’s late son, Luv, who tragically passed away in an accident in 2023. This tribute symbolizes a father’s love and hopes to inspire young people to learn about history.
Despite limited resources, Saha cares for the museum as best he can. He continues to run a fast food stall to support his family, all while dreaming big for the museum’s future.
Learning and Growth
Saha believes that museums are vital for sharing knowledge. He envisions his museum as a learning hub for students and researchers. To expand his efforts, he frequently visits cities like Kolkata, Delhi, and Mumbai for workshops on numismatics.
“It’s all about spreading knowledge. I want the younger generation to learn from our past,” he sums up.
