Dyson has introduced a new vacuum cleaner called the PencilVac, claiming it to be the slimmest on the market. At a glance, it resembles a broom more than a typical vacuum. The handle is only 38mm thick, matching the width of Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer, and it weighs just under four pounds. This device uses Dyson’s most compact and speedy motor to date.
The PencilVac is designed as an upgrade to the slim Dyson Omni-glide, which came out in 2021. While the Omni-glide features dual spinning brushes, the new PencilVac boasts four innovative brush bars named Fluffycones. These conical brushes prevent hair tangles by allowing long hairs to slide down into a narrow end that easily collects them.
Dyson has improved edge cleaning with the Fluffycones, which extend a bit at the sides. They include green LED lights that help illuminate dust, making it easier to see what needs to be cleaned.
Another advancement is the PencilVac’s motor, just 28mm in diameter but capable of 140,000 RPM, producing 55AW of suction power. The new two-stage dust filtration system helps keep performance steady as the vacuum fills up. Though the dust bin is smaller than other Dyson models, it has a unique design that compresses dirt to maximize capacity.
For convenience, the PencilVac charges in a floor dock and features a small LCD screen showing the cleaning mode and battery life. It’s also the first Dyson vacuum to link with the MyDyson app, offering extra settings, filter-cleaning alerts, and maintenance guides.
However, the slim design does have drawbacks. It’s optimized for hard floors and cannot convert into a handheld vacuum. Battery life is limited to 30 minutes at lower power, but additional batteries will be available for purchase.
While pricing is still under wraps, PencilVac will launch in Japan later this year, with a U.S. release scheduled for 2026. According to recent market data, consumers are increasingly seeking lightweight, versatile cleaning solutions, reflecting a trend toward more compact home appliances.
This shift reveals that people value convenience and efficiency in their cleaning tools, and Dyson appears to be responding to that demand.
