Eero, owned by Amazon, is introducing new mesh routers that support Wi-Fi 7. The Eero 7 and Eero Pro 7 are available for preorder now, with a launch set for February 26th. Prices start at $169.99 for the Eero 7 and $299.99 for the Pro 7. If you want a multi-pack, they cost up to $699.99 for three Eero Pro 7 units.
Eero claims that the Eero 7 can achieve speeds of up to 1.8Gbps, while the Pro 7 can reach 3.9Gbps. These speeds should be sufficient for most home internet users. The Eero 7 is dual-band, which means it operates on 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, offering two 2.5Gbps ethernet ports. The Pro 7 adds a 6GHz band and features dual 5Gbps ethernet ports.
While these new models aren’t as high-performing as the top-tier Eero Max 7, they come with Wi-Fi 7 features that can enhance your connection even if your devices don’t support Wi-Fi 7. For instance, they can combine multiple bands, which helps maintain a stable connection even if one band is busy. Plus, the 6GHz band offers a channel bandwidth of 320MHz, doubling what was previously the maximum.
Rowan Chakoumakos, Eero’s VP of software engineering, mentioned that both models can send a signal of up to 240MHz on the 5GHz band. This means if you have older devices, like a smartphone or game console, you’ll still benefit from improved speeds when using these new routers.
The Eero 7 and Pro 7 also serve as smart home hubs, capable of working with Amazon’s Alexa ecosystem. They support Matter, include a Zigbee radio, and can act as Thread Border Routers. Moreover, they are compatible with Eero’s older models, allowing seamless integration with existing setups.
With the launch of the Eero 7 options, Eero now offers four Wi-Fi 7 routers, including an outdoor model introduced last October. They will continue to sell earlier models like the Eero 6 and Pro 6E, which have recently seen a price reduction.
