In response, Epic Games has introduced a new incentive: starting today, players can earn 20% back in Epic Rewards for in-app purchases made through their payment system in games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Fall Guys.

This offer is not limited to only the App Store; it applies across PC, Android devices, and the web. Users will receive their rewards balance 14 days after the purchase, which can be redeemed in any of Epic’s games or the Epic Games Store.

PC gamers on the Epic Store can also enjoy a similar 20% back on all purchases, but this offer is temporary and ends on August 31.

The motivation for these rewards stems from a recent ruling by Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, which favored Epic in its long-standing legal battle with Apple. This ruling, from a case earlier in 2021, stated that Apple had to allow developers to point users toward alternative payment methods, effectively bypassing Apple’s 30% commission fee.

Despite the 2021 decision, Apple continued to charge a lower commission of 27% for external payments and even 12% for small business program members. The judge criticized Apple, stating the company consistently chose paths that stifled competition.

Soon after the ruling, Epic announced that Fortnite would return to the App Store, confirming that they had submitted the game for Apple’s review.
