Discover Exciting New Golf and Entertainment Offerings at Southern Delaware Golf Club!

Southern Delaware Golf Club is finishing up a new practice range to attract local golfers and tourists alike.

This state-of-the-art facility features a large building with a glass garage door that can be opened for fresh air or closed for shelter. On one side, there are 10 hitting bays overlooking an expanded practice area with 100 feet of artificial turf. Each bay has individual heating and lighting, making it perfect for year-round use.

Two of the hitting stations will be equipped with Flight Scope launch monitors and TVs, with plans to outfit the rest similarly in the future. Bar-height counters are positioned behind each bay, creating a great spot for friends to give tips or playful banter as they practice.

The interior includes a cozy fireplace, ceiling fans, comfortable couches, tables, and TVs, all contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. For food and drinks, you can easily order from the nearby Big Oyster restaurant using a QR code system.

Stewart Fisher, the head golf pro, expressed excitement about the new setup, saying it offers a fun golf entertainment experience similar to Topgolf. He believes it will allow golfers to enjoy the sport all year round while accessing various club amenities.

In other news, congratulations to Pete Oakley from The Rookery for his impressive victory at the 2025 PGA Quarter Century Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Competing in the 65-and-older division, the 75-year-old golfer managed a four-under-par total over two days, ultimately winning in a playoff with a two-putt birdie.

Oakley highlighted his love for the game and the thrill of the competition, especially in challenging weather conditions.

On a different note, Jacob Gabbard, a senior golfer at Cape Henlopen High School, recently made headlines for scoring a hole-in-one on December 7 at Midway Par 3’s 14th hole. His proud dad mentioned that Jacob used a sand wedge to make the shot into the wind. This isn’t his first ace; he previously scored one in March 2021.

Finally, Plantation Lakes Golf Club is gearing up for the PGA Junior League, which has grown to engage over 500,000 junior golfers across the nation. Open to kids 17 and under, teams are organized by age and compete in a scramble format. Practice begins soon for the Spring Series 13U Lakers team, offering a supportive environment where young players can learn golf skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The registration fee is $289, and there’s also a one-time PGA membership fee. Interested families can reach out to the club for more details.
