Climate Action Durham wants to hear from you about our food system. Join us for an engaging discussion on how we can make it better.
Our first event, ‘A Sustainable Food System’, is happening on Thursday, March 6, from 7 PM to 9 PM at Old Elvet Methodist Church Hall. We’ll have two insightful speakers who will share their expertise and answer your questions about food.
Alan Warde, a researcher with over 40 years of experience in food trends, and Sarah Wakefield, leader of the group ‘Eating Better’, will be leading the conversation.
The second event, called ‘Conversation about Food Systems and Climate Change’, is set for Friday, March 14, from 1:15 PM to 2:30 PM at the Northern Stores and Deli in the Prince Bishops Shopping Centre. This gathering will be an informal chat guided by Aisha Basurto, who has a Master’s degree in Nature, Society, and Environmental Governance.
These discussions will explore key questions like: Can our planet produce enough food for everyone? What does a sustainable diet look like? How can we create a food system that works for us and the environment?
The food system includes everything from growing and harvesting to transporting and consuming food. It’s a big player in climate change, generating lots of greenhouse gases. Deforestation, livestock production, and energy use all take their toll. Plus, our food choices impact biodiversity, leading to problems like soil degradation.
At Climate Action Durham, we believe that food is essential to our daily lives, and we all want to enjoy what we eat. We invite anyone involved in the food system to join in. It’s an opportunity to think about how we can enjoy our meals while protecting the planet.
If you’re interested in these conversations, please reserve your spot on Eventbrite so we can plan for seating and refreshments.
